BAHAMAS AVIATOR NEWS:
Banyan Hosts Successful Bahamas Day:
The First Annual Bahamas Day hosted by Banyan Air Service, was a runaway success. Pilots crowded around vendors, enjoyed Bahamian cooking, attended seminars, including eAPIS procedures, and were entertained by a colorful Junkanoo band.
Preferred Gateway Banyan Air transformed its hanger into the look and feel of The Islands of The Bahamas. The trade show portion of the day’s activities included about 30 exhibitors - both U.S and Bahamian companies

GA Pilots Step Up to Help Haiti :
Bahamas Habitat’s aviation relief operation passed a milestone Feb. 2, completing its 150th relief mission to Haiti. EarthFlight Media, in coordination with Bahamas Tourism, has donated their video production "Bahamas Pilot Procedures" to aid pilots flying relief missions.

Bahamas Buzzing With GA Aircraft: Wave after wave of fly-ins kept ramps busy throughout the Bahamas, as pilot groups visited the islands after the AOPA Summit in Tampa. At Stella Maris, below, activities included fly-bys, beach combing, fine dinining, as well as a unique Cave Party, featuring bonfires, dancing, and general wild behavior. While the new eAPIS program is still getting tweaked, pilots reported few problems learning the system.
Chocks Feature Bahamian Student Artwork - General aviation chocks designed by students from the Out Islands of the Bahamas were given-away to pilots attending the Aviation Summit in Tampa, Florida. The program was a big hit at the show. Pilots lined up at the Bahamas Booth to get their pair, as well as listen to Greg Rolle explain flight procedures, and hand out resort literature.

Statistical 2008 data indicates that during that year, the visit of some 82, 949 Private Pilots accounted for 476,593 room nights for the Bahamas, with the overwhelming majority going to the Family Islands."
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation has established a network of “gateway” Florida fixed-base operators (FBOs) to make it easier for general aviation pilots to fly to and from the islands.
